The book reveals the idea of creating a path similar to a pilgrimage route, but not exactly. The route runs through the Bulgarian capitals of Pliska, Veliki Preslav, Veliko Tarnovo, and Sofia, starting from the sea capital, Varna.
The idea came to the author, Lina Bor, after she walked the popular Camino Francés pilgrimage route in Spain. It has become a cause for her to attract the attention of state institutions and the church to create a well-maintained route. The goal is to make it a way of life for people, to attract tourists from all over the world, and to revitalize many declining villages.
The book describes nearly 100 sites along the route from Varna to Sofia, a route that the author has walked in stages for the most part. A key strength of the book is its practical advice, including useful tips, locations, routes, and information on accessibility and difficulty.
Toward the end of the book, the author touches on the Bogomil movement, which the Bulgarian Orthodox Church considers a heresy. However, according to some European statesmen, the Bogomil movement led to the Renaissance in Europe.
